Sodium Petroleum Sulphonate

The surfactant or detergent Sodium Petroleum Sulphonate is frequently used as an emulsifier in lubricants, especially in oil-based drilling fluids and metalworking fluids. It is made by neutralizing the end result of sulfonating petroleum oil with sulfuric acid with sodium hydroxide. The resulting substance helps to disperse water in oil-based lubricants and has good wetting properties.
