Engine coolant or antifreeze is made using Coolant Concentrate, a type of liquid additive. Either ethylene glycol or propylene glycol is typically present in a concentrated solution that must first be diluted with water before use. The purpose of this concentrate is to decrease the freezing point of water and increase its boiling point, preventing the engine from freezing in cold weather and overheating in hot weather. Additionally, it includes inhibitors to aid in preventing rust and corrosion in the cooling system of the engine. It comes in a variety of colors, and is frequently used in automotive and industrial applications.
